Carling Cup - The Quarter Finals

As promised, here's our view on the Carling Cup ties to be played on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th of November, the quarter-finals of the competition. While this has traditionally been a tournament with a decreasing about of interest in it from the big clubs, you can be sure that there are some great games this week. Premiership leaders Manchester City face in-form Arsenal at the Emirates, and Chelsea face Liverpool at home, a fixture which the Reds won just a few weeks ago. Two huge games, and throw into the mix Cardiff vs Blackburn and Manchester United - Crystal Palace, and you've got yourself a cracking week of football. There's also a handful of Championship and League One games, and some Europa League action.

Our tips? We think Man City at 2.4 are a decent bet to reach the last 4. With both sides set to play weakened teams, you have to feel that City's second string will have far too much power for their Arsenal counterparts. Chelsea would be our tip, due to the home advantage, although it's a tough one to call. They are at 1.9. Manchester United will surely win their home tie against lower division opposition, and Blackburn will be expected to do the same. However, Cardiff are in great form (3rd in the Championship) and Steve Kean's men are rock bottom, and for that reason, the Bluebirds are the favourites. The draw over 90 minutes at 3.55 will be one to look at.

It's sure to be a great two nights of football, so do keep following it, and hopefully you win some money! We'll be back on Thursday with a sporting round-up, involving these games and the other news from around the world, before cracking on with this weekend's Premiership predictions. Thanks for reading.
